Chatham Chorale PRESENTS “A CELTIC JUBILEE”
Voices and Traditional Instruments at First Congregational Church of Chatham
Chatham, MA / March 1, 2023 – As in years past, the Chatham Chorale will enliven the season around St. Patrick’s Day with concerts of Celtic music—which has a thriving tradition on Cape Cod. The performances take place on Saturday, March 11, at 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm, and Sunday, March 12, at 2:00 pm, at Chatham’s First Congregational Church on Main Street.
“This is music that will make our audiences want to get up and dance a jig or a fling,” says Chorale Music Director Joe Marchio. “Our singers love this repertoire, and we’re fortunate to have a community of wonderful Celtic musicians on the Cape, some of whom will be performing with us.”
The voices of the Chorale, accompanied by Donald Enos on keyboards, will be joined by bagpiper Sarah Ford Marchio, Celtic harpist Mairead Doherty, and Jae Cosmos Lee (best known as concertmaster of the Cape Symphony) on fiddle. Also appearing on the program will be Thomas Marchio (guitar) and Christopher Marchio (piano), percussionist Mark Prall, Chatham’s own organ virtuoso Julian Petrallia, and the recently formed Chatham Chorale Children’s Choir, with accompanist Frank Toppa.
Concert repertoire includes perennial favorites such as “Highland Cathedral,” “Annie Laurie,” and “The Whistling Gypsy,” as well as new arrangements of “Danny Boy” and the Irish hymn “Be Thou My Vision.” Also featured will be the Credo from Philip Green’s St. Patrick’s Mass (1971). Green, known for his film scores, composed the Mass as a joyous tribute to his beloved Ireland.
Chatham Chorale is one of Cape Cod’s longest-established choral ensembles, for 52 years presenting an annual concert series with programs ranging from choral masterworks to pops stylings and premieres of new works by regional composers. The Chorale also regularly collaborates with the Cape Symphony—for example, in the annual Holiday Pops concerts—and sings in service to the community.
All tickets are $25. They can be purchased at www.chathamchorale.org/tickets, by phone (774-212-9333), or at the door the day of the concert. For more information, visit www.chathamchorale.org.

The Chatham Chorale recently received a grant from The Chatham Fund of the Cape Cod Foundation in support of our first concert of this 2019-2020 season. Ode to Music took place in Chatham at the Methodist Church on November 9 & 10, 2019. The concert featuring Soprano Joan Kirchner, and Tenor Charles Blandy, with a small chamber orchestra anchored by Quarttet Giocosa on strings was very well attended. Audiences for the second concert, Candlelight Christmas, filled the Chatham Methodist Church for 3 sold-out performances.
The Chatham Chorale Board of Directors, Music Director Joe Marchio, and members of the Chorale thank our growing audience of supporters.
The Chatham Chorale thanks two local arts organizations, The Chatham Fund of the Cape Cod Foundation and Cape Cod Melody Tent/ South Shore Playhouse Associates for their generous support of our 2019-2020 season.
